The family of a Council Bluffs sixth grader says the boy died of the flu. Twelve-year-old Corey Mefferd died Sunday in an Omaha hospital. Family members say he got a cold about a week ago. On December 15th, he began having problems breathing and he was admitted to the hospital. His lung collapsed, and he was in a coma, being treated for pneumonia when he died. Corey Mefferd had attended school in Denison and Dunlap before moving to Council Bluffs. His funeral was at 10:30 this morning in Woodbine.
