Alford wants better free throw percentage

December 29, 2003 By admin

Iowa coach Steve Alford wants to see his team take advantage of charity shots when the Hawkeyes return to action tomorrow night at home against Eastern Illinois. Iowa has droopped its last two games and poor foul shooting has been a major factor. In losses to UNI and Texas Tech, the Hawkeyes went to the free throw line 46 times but made only 26. Alford says missed free throws are like turnovers. Alford says if you count the front-ends of one-and-ones that were missed, his team would be averaging 30 free throw attempts per game. Alford says with no classes, his team can have longer practices and that means more work on free throws. Each player’s being asked to make 150 free throws every day.
