Kerry claims 10,000 Iowa vets will support him on 19th

January 13, 2004 By admin

Massachussetts Senator John Kerry today predicted that more than 10,000 Iowa veterans will caucus on his behalf next Monday. Four Vietnam veterans who are brothers came from Texas to campaign with Kerry today in Waterloo. Richard Bolanos cited Kerry’s service in Vietnam and told the crowd he’s supporting Kerry because Kerry wore his country’s uniform and didn’t just “put on the military garb” and play the part like Bush did when he landed on an aircraft carrier to announce an end to major combat in iraq. Kerry used the event in Waterloo to praise the service of the Five Sullivan Brothers from Waterloo who served together and died together in World War II when their Navy boat was sunk. Kerry said the Bolanos brothers, like the Sullivans, exemplified a special spirit of service. “I’m here to ask Iowa veterans to join in the veterans’ brigade that is criss-crossing this state, to go to the caucuses next Monday and to fight to put those lessons in place in the leadership of this country,” Kerry said.
