Governor supports end to casino cruise requirement

February 2, 2004 By admin

Governor Tom Vilsack says legislators should consider doing away with the current requirement that the state’s riverboat casinos cruise at least once a day from April 1st to November 1st.Vilsack says there are new Homeland Security guidelines which will cost the boats a lot of money to meet. He says it’s time to get rid of the “fallacy” of making the casino boats cruise. Vilsack says the Osceola casino is on a lake, and its cruises are “ridiculous” and “absurd.” Vilsack says he has “no strong preferences either way” on other gambling issues like whether the state should begin to grant new gambling boat licenses.
