The U.S. Postal Service is launching a campaign to educate Iowa consumers about mail fraud. Postal Inspector Susan Matt says they handled some 80-thousand mail fraud complaints nationwide last year. Matt says if you get a suspicious mailing, give it to your postal carrier or local post office. Matt says “We do try to figure out who’s sending it and get them to stop. And we may be able to identify victims based on that mailing as well.” The top five scams are: pyramid schemes, free-prize scams, foreign lotteries, investment fraud and work-at-home schemes. She says “The best defense a person has against becoming a victim is to educate yourself and be able to recognize a scam before you fall prey to it.”
