Independence Police are warning about a new phone scam involving cheap gas. Independence Police Chief Doug Rassmussen says a man came into the police department and said he had a call that someone wanted to sell him 200 gallons of gas for just one dollar and 29-cents. The person on the phone refused to give out any information about the company. Rassmussen says he’s just had one report of the call, but he thinks there may be more. He says there more than likely could be other people who got the call. He says the public should be aware of the calls. Rassmussen says the call is likely an attempt to get your personal information so the caller can get your name, address and bank information so they can get access to your accounts. Rassmussen says you should never give out the information over the phone unless you initiate the call.
