Clarke County deputy shoots man

February 11, 2004 By admin

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation has been called in to investigate an early morning shooting by a Clarke County deputy. Clarke County Sheriff Mark Addison issued a statement saying deputies got a domestic/trespass call just after 12:30 this morning at a residence in Osceola. He says deputies encountered a suspect with knives who refused repeated orders to drop them. The Sheriff says one of the deputies fired multiple shots at the suspect after the suspect moved toward the deputy. The statement says the suspect is hospitalized in Des Moines. The Sheriff has not released the suspect’s condition, and says he’s withholding the person’s identity until relatives have been notified. The Sheriff has asked the D-C-I to handle the investigation and there’s a news conference scheduled to release more details this afternoon in Osceola.
