Services set for fallen Iowa Guardmember

The funeral is scheduled for Saturday for the Iowa National Guard soldier from Sheffield who was killed in a mortar attack last week near the Baghdad International Airport. Twenty-three-year-old Specialist Joshua Knowles of the 11-33rd Transportation Company died Thursday while a military cargo truck he was in took a direct hit to the cab while at a checkpoint. Also injured in the attack was 32-year-old Specialist Peter Bieber , who is expected to arrive today at Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington D.C., where he will either be admitted for treatment or be transferred to the Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio. Staff Sgt. Dan Cahalan of the 11-33rd Transportation Company left yesterday for Dover Air Force Base and will escort Knowles body back to North Iowa. Visitation for Knowles will be from 4-to-8 P.M. Friday at the Sacred Heart Parish Center in Rockwell with services set for Saturday morning at 10:30 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rockwell. A memorial fund has been established in care of the United Bank & Trust of Sheffield.
