Boy’s baseball and soccer tourneys to move to Des Moines

February 12, 2004 By admin

The Iowa High School Athletic Association Board in Control voted today to move the boys baseball and soccer tournaments to Des Moines in 2005. The soccer tournament has been held in Muscatine and the baseball tournament has been held in Marshalltown and Carroll. Marshalltown was the sole host of the baseball tournament before it was split in two in 1993, and has been host for 30 years. Marshalltown athletic director Tim Bell was surprised to hear the news today.Bell was upset to learn his school would lose its tradition of hosting the tourney. He says there are things you don’t have control over, but you still feel like you have the best situation. Bell says the state association must have a different feeling and wants to try a different way. The baseball tournament will be held as Sec Taylor Stadium in Des Moines beginning in 2005. That is the home of the Triple-A Iowa Cubs. The IHSAA signed a two-year deal to host baseball in Des Moines and a three-year deal for soccer.
