February 16, 2004 By admin

The Iowa Hawkeyes women used a 13-4 run late in the ballgame to complete a comeback in a 78-69 victory at Indiana, their four consecutive Big Ten road win.Iowa coach Lisa Bluder says it’s something great to do in the Big Ten, as she says it’s a tough conference. The Hawkeyes rallied from a sluggish start in which they trailed the Hoosiers by 15-points in the opening half. She says she was proud the team didn’t fold at that point. She says they just stayed calm and played good defense.Bluder says the difference in the second half was the play on the defensive end. She says they forced some turnovers with the press, and that led to some big baskets.Iowa is now 8-4 in the Big Ten and 14-9 overall.Drake is now 7-6 in the Valley after routing Wichita State 70-47 in the Knapp Center on Sunday. Sophomore guard Linda Sayavongchanh led the Bulldogs with 19-points and her dribble penetration broke down the Wichita State defense.Sayavongchanh says she continues to become more comfortable running the offense of first-year coach Amy Stephens. The victory completed an impressive weekend for the Bulldogs who upended 23rd ranked Southwest Missouri State on Friday night.Jill Martin chipped in with 12-points as Drake improves to 10-12 overall.
