The UNI men return to Missouri Valley Conference play at home tonight against Wichita State. UNI is 8-6 in the Valley after a loss at Bradley. Wichita State has won five straight and is tied with Creighton for second. Panther coach Greg McDermott says they need to keep this game from becoming a track meet, because he says Creighton thrives in the transition game. He says if they can make it a quarter court game, it plays into their favor. McDermott is concerned about the start of the game defensively for the Panthers. He wants to slow them down early so they don’t think they can run.Wichita State won the first matchup of the season but coach Mark Turgeon expects a tough battle. He says he thought they were one of the best teams he’d played in the first game. Turgeon says the Panthers create their own problems on defense, as he says you have to be able to guard a bunch of screens and shooters.
