Wrestlers hit the mats again today at state tourney

The State high school wrestling tournament resumes this morning with the opening round matches in class 1A. On Wednesday, Linn-Mar 152 pounder Jay Borschel was one of seven defending champs to advance in class 3A after a second period pin of Bettendorf’s Kyle Rose.Borschel says his game plan in every match is to be aggressive and take command early. He says you have to go out and just plan on beating them up and dominating.Lewis Central has the early team lead in 3A. The Titans got off to a good start when 103-pounder Jeff Rau defeated Mike Mille of Waverly-Shell Rock 11-0 in a match that left him exhausted. He says he was a little bit nervous, but says the first day is the most important and you have to keep going on.The large crowds at Veterans Auditorium are enjoying a new feature this year, a new video board that measures 19 feet wide and 15 feet tall. It offers live video as well as replays of matches and posts real-time results.Jack Lashier of the Iowa High School Athletic Association who says the board was an immediate hit with the fans because it’s high definition and sharp. He says all of the people in the crowd were looking around at what’s going on on the board. He says they’ll also use it for boys and girls basketball and for track at Drake.
