Iowa wants two on the road and an NCAA bid

March 2, 2004 By admin

The Iowa Hawkeyes look to boost their post-season hopes with a couple of road games to close out the regular season. The Hawks are 8-6 in the Big Ten, good for fourth place, and visit Northwestern tomorrow night. Iowa coach Steve Alford says it’s a big week, and he says it’s a credit to the team to get to this point and be able to fight to play on Friday. The top five teams avoid the play-in round at the Big Ten Tournament. Alford says considering what his team has been through with the personnel losses they have clawed their way into post-season contention. He says there were a lot of times they could’ve written things off, but they didn’t.After the game at Northwestern the Hawkeyes close the regular season at Purdue. Alford feels two wins this week would put the Hawks into the NCAA Tournament. He says not team at 10-6 in the conference has missed the tournament. Iowa is 15-10 overall.
