The Panthers dominated the entire way and hammered 15th ranked Southern Illinois 68-52 and prevented the Salukis from becoming just the third team ever to finish the Missouri Valley Conference regular season unbeaten. UNI led from start to finish and Southern was only able to get within five points in the second half. UNI finished the Valley race 12-6 and tied with Creighton and Wichita State for second place. Last night’s win earns the Panthers the tie-breaker and they will be the second seed in the Valley Tournament.UNI coach Greg McDermott says his team did it with execution and toughness and remained positive even during a couple of rough spots during the season. McDermott says he has a group of guys who play the game for the right reason, and that’s for the team. McDermott says that’s rare to see. UNI takes an 18-9 record to St. Louis.
