Several questions remain around the stabbing death of a Maharishi University student in Fairfield Monday night. 19-year-old Levi Butler was fatally stabbed in the chest while eating at the campus dining hall Monday night. Fairfield police have charged another student, 24-year-old Shuvender Sem of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, with first-degree murder in the stabbing death of Butler. Sem is being held on a one-million dollar bond. In addition to the murder charge, Sem faces an assault charge for stabbing a student in the face with a ballpoint pen early Monday morning. That incident was not reported until after Monday night’s murder, and investigators want to know why. After the initial incident Sem was placed on suspension and ordered off campus. It’s believe a medication problem may have led to his brutal behavior. Investigators also found that Sem was hospitalized in November of 2002 after being attacked himself outside a hotel in Philadelphia.
