March 4, 2004 By admin

The parents of a Delmar girl who died in a fire last month have been charged and made an appearance in court. Clinton County Sheriff Rick Lincoln announced that 26-year-old Damon D. Peterson and 28-year-old Shalene Potenzo were arrested Wednesday night in the February 15th death of their daughter, four-year-old Eve Peterson. The father is charged with two counts of child endangerment and two felony counts of child neglect. The mother is charged with two counts of child neglect, and one felony count of child endangerment. Shalene Potenzo admitted to leaving the girl in her room to watch a video. She also admitted there was a lit candle in the girl’s room when she left to visit a neighbor. An investigation also showed the residence not fit for the presence of children. Peterson’s bond was set at 40-thousand dollars, and 50-thousand for Potenzo. The State Fire Marshal’s office says the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
