Daffodil Days is not a flowery festival in any single Iowa town, but it’s the name of a statewide promotion and fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. Jennifer Lane, spokeswoman for the non-profit agency’s office in Carroll, explains how it works. For a seven-dollar donation, the purchaser gets a delivered bouquet of ten bright yellow daffodils. Lane explains why that particular type of flower was chosen. Lane says the daffodil is the first flower of spring and has the image of hope, for spring being on its way and for cancer patients, hope that the disease can and will be defeated. She says the promotion is underway now and the flowers will be delivered starting on Monday. To order, she says to call the American Cancer Society at 800-ACS-2345 and an operator will direct you to the nearest chapter in Iowa, or visit “www.cancer.org”.
