Coop accidents leave one dead, one injured

March 11, 2004 By admin

Two incidents at northeast Iowa farm coops have left one man injured and another dead. Firefighters called to the Winneshiek Co-op in Cresco Wednesday afternoon found 49-year-old Joseph Brannan of Waucoma had fallen into a grain bin and was trapped. He suffocated and was pronounced dead after they’d removed him from the bin. At the Fredericksburg Co-op, an man was reported on fire after an explosion. 33-year-old Chuck Stanton of New Hampton had been doing some electrical work in a building owned by the co-op when it happened, and suffered burns to his hands and face. He was airlifted to University hospitals in Iowa City.
