Search underway for Ottumwa couple who kidnapped kid

March 12, 2004 By admin

A search is underway for a southeast Iowa couple after a non-custodial mother allegedly abducted her boy on Thursday — pepper-spraying a state worker in the face to make the getaway. Authorities are searching for an Ottumwa woman who allegedly assaulted a social worker at the D-H-S office in Ottumwa yesterday and fled with her three-year-old son — who was in foster care. The wanted woman is identified as 21-year-old Beth Templeton. She may be traveling with 30-year-old James Browning, also of Ottumwa. The missing boy is Devin Templeton. The D-H-S worker has been released from the hospital. An Amber Alert was -not- issued as it’s unclear what type of vehicle the couple may be in.
