March 15, 2004 By admin

The Boys’ State Basketball Tournament begins this morning in Veterans Auditorium with the opening round in class 1A. It includes the matchup between ninth ranked North Mahaska and fourth rated Bellevue Marquette. North Mahaska coach Andy Pickerting says his team will need to overcome a size disadvantage, and a substantial one at that.Pickering says they have worked on some zone defense but is concerned because they rarely play it. He says it doesn’t fit his kids, but he says they’ll do what they can to win the ballgame.
