Fonda woman charged with theft of lottery winnings

March 16, 2004 By admin

A Fonda woman faces a felony charge after allegedly trying to cheat others out of their share of a winning lottery ticket. Buena Vista County Sheriff Chuck Eddy says a group of Albert City residents asked his department to look into who bought the 100-thousand dollar ticket. Deputies determined that a group of people pooled their money for the ticket that turned up a winner on New Year’s Eve. The investigation by deputies and the Iowa Lottery Commission led to a charge of first-degree theft against 54-year-old Mary Farrell. Farrell was released on bond pending a court appearance. Eddy says the investigation is not over.
