Two champions will be crowned tonight at the Boys’ State Basketball Tournament. Top ranked PCM Monroe and second rated Fort Dodge St. Edmond won emotion filled semifinal round games and meet in tonight’s 2A title game. Brandon Myers poured in 35-points and added 16 rebounds as PCM downed defending champion Sioux Center 64-58. He says it’s awesome as no one from PCM has made it to the championship.Mustang coach Fred Lorensen had directed four other teams to the semifinals but this will be their first trip to the finals. He says this was for all the kids who weren’t able to get to the championship game.Sioux Center coach Todd Arends says they could not find a way to stop Myers. He says he scored from all over and made his free-throws down the stretch. It was an emotional day for Pella Christian. The Eagles played without head coach Larry Hessing whose wife passed away Wednesday night after a lengthy battle with cancer. Assistant coach Marvin Van Wyk filled in and the Eagles led second rated Fort Dodge St. Edmond for much of the game before falling 47-45. He said he was very proud of how the players played, as they gave a winning effort.Tim Flattery’s two free throws with three-point-seven seconds remaining were the difference. St. Edmond coach Adolph Kochendorfer said Pella Christian played hard despite the difficult circumstances. His voice broke as he said it was a tough situation to be in. In class 3A Harlan is a victory away from its first state basketball championship. The top-ranked Cyclones got 28-points Joel Osborn and outscored upset minded Norwalk 22-11 in the third quarter in a 72-63 win. He says after they lost last year, they wanted to get back and get another shot at the title. Norwalk coach Chris Larson said Harlan had too many weapons. He says Harlan’s penetration hurt them, but he says they had to guard them close to keep them from easy shots. Cody Stockdale had 31 points as number two Crestwood beat Fairfield 76-51. He says it’s great, as this is what they thought they could do.
