PCM and Dunkerton take basketball championships

Top ranked P-C-M Monroe and second rated Fort Dodge St. Edmond hooked up in a classic 2A championship game at the Boys’ State Basketball Tournament in Des Moines. Brandon Myers had 31-points and grabbed 18-rebounds as PCM claimed its first championship with a 58-57 win over second ranked St. Edmond in double overtime.P-C-M coach Fred Lorensen says this is what they play for, and he says after watching the tournament every year, you never think it’s going to be you. Tim Flattery had 16-points and was one of three Gaels that played all 40 minutes.He says both teams gave it everything they had and he says P-C-M was just better.Myers free throw with five seconds remaining gave PCM a 58-54 lead and was the moment he knew they had finally won it. Myers says it was mentally draining, but luckily they came out on top.All week Dunkerton has paid tribute to its past, now in can celebrate the present. The third ranked Raiders roared away from second-rated Manning by outscoring the Bulldogs 19-8 in the second quarter and cruised to a 68-41 victory for the class 1A championship, their first title in 71-years.Coach Justin Little said they talked about how “it was time to party like it’s 1933 again” and he says they’ll do that because they deserve it. Senior Kyle Kuenstling had a big game, he finished with 17-points and 14 rebounds. He said the entire town of Dunkerton made the trip and a few others, including relatives he says he doesn’t even know. Manning coach Keith Manning said he was proud of his team, saying the loss was disappointing, but he’s not disappointed in the effort of his team.
