Man killed in crash identified

March 23, 2004 By admin

Authorities in Cerro Gordo County have identified a man found in a burning car early Monday morning in north-central Iowa. Authorities were called to the crash just south of Mason City about 12-30 Monday morning. Deputies say 38-year-old Tony Michael Phelps of Tripoli was killed when the car he was driving veered off the “Avenue of the Saints” and ran into concrete pillars at the interchange of U.S. Highway 65 and Highway 18. They had to use dental records to identify Phelps, and say an autopsy found he died of internal injuries suffered in the crash. Authorities still aren’t sure what caused the accident.
