Iowa State University begins spring football practice today and will also open up their new state-of-the-art indoor practice facility. Coach Dan McCarney joked about opening the new indoor building on day when there’s beautiful spring weather. He says he’s waited 10 years to get the facility built, and the first day they can use it it’s 75 and sunny outside. But, McCarney says they’ve seen snow, rain, high winds and everything else during the spring. He says they practice in the building today, Friday and Saturday. McCarney says the building takes the scheduling worry out of spring practice. He says he prefers to be outdoors if the weather is nice, but he says they don’t have to worry about it raining or snowing now. He says for the first time he won’t have to start the day checking out the weather to see where they’ll practice. McCarney says the facility isn’t just for spring. He says it’s a year round facility for training all summer, in the fall to bowl games and winter workouts. McCarney says the indoor facility is also another lure for recruits. He says this past December and January they could take recruits out to see the building under construction. McCarney says the building now almost takes his breath away and says there’s not a better facility in college or the N-F-L. Iowa State’s spring practices will run through April, with the spring game on April 17th.
