The University of Iowa baseball team is hosting a series of games in Des Moines this weekend at Sec Taylor Stadium. Jack Dahm is in his first year at the helm of the Hawkeye program and says the Iowa Cubs/Hawkeye Classic is important in raising the team’s profile in the state. He says they can’t expect people to come to them, they have to take Iowa baseball out to the state. He says playing these games in Des Moines and getting a chance to play the I-Cubs will be beneficial to his team. Dahm says they’re doing the same thing when they play intrastate rival Northern Iowa later this season. That game will be played at Veterans Memorial Stadium — the home of the Cedar Rapids Kernels. He says they’re trying to turn it into an event with four or five thousand people. Dahm says it’s a good way to highlight both programs. The Northern Iowa series is April 20.
