Governor guarantees Education Director will be reappointed

Governor Tom Vilsack today guaranteed that the Director of the Iowa Department of Education’s reappointment won’t be scuttled by lawmakers. The director must be approved by the Senate for reappointment. He says, “Ted Stillwell’s reappointment is not in jeopardy.” Vilsack, a democrat, says rumors that rifts over education issues between him and republicans might sink Stillwell’s renomination are merely talk. He says it’s about politics and is the nasty part of the business. Vilsack says Stilwell is a respected figure nationally, and in the state.Vilsack made his comments during his weekly meeting with reporters.
