March 29, 2004 By admin

The Iowa State women ended their post-season tournament run with a 65-59 loss to UNLV Sunday in Ames in the semifinals of the W-N-I-T. The Cyclones, who were trying gain a chance to play in the championship game at home, trailed by one at the half. They had a few chances to take the lead very late in the game, but Coach Bill Fennelly said that they just didn’t make the shots to win. He says “It’s a simple game, you make a shot, you win, you miss a shot, you lose.”Fennelly thanked the fans who he called tremendous for following the team the whole season. He also congratulated UNLV for playing a “great game” down the stretch. Senior Erica Junod led Iowa State with 15 points, Lyndsey Meders had 12. The tournament gave some of I-S-U’s younger players some much needed extra practice and game experience. They finish the season at 18-14 overall. UNLV moves to 26-7 and will face Creighton in the championship game.
