The second half of county property tax payments are due at the end of this month, and county treasurers are encouraging you to pay on-line. Polk County treasurer Mary Maloney says anyone with a computer can pay via the web at: iowatreasurers.org.The website is sponsored by the Iowa County Treasurer’s Association, so it can be used in all 99 counties. Maloney led the organization when the website was developed a few years ago and says it allows you to access your treasurer’s office any time day or night. She says if it’s hard for you to get to the office or if you pay the bills on-line already, it’s very useful. Maloney oversees the state’s largest county and says the on-line payment system is catching on.She says they’re already seeing almost four times as many people using the service this year as last. There’s an incentive too for you to file on-line.She says the treasurers are sponsoring a contest, so that one person who pays on-line will be chosen to win up to 500 dollars. Maloney says a sponsor has kicked in the prize money, so it doesn’t come out of county taxes.
