Iowa quarterback not a snap decision

April 1, 2004 By admin

Iowa football coach Kirk Ferentz expects to wait until preseason practice in August to name a starting quarterback. Sophomore Drew Tate is the leading candidate to replace Nathan Chandler, who helped lead the Hawks to a 10-2 record and an Outback Bowl win over Florida. He says they have four guys taking snaps and they have pretty much split the snaps up among all of them. He says Drew Tate has a little advantage after being the backup last year. Ferentz says he’ll predict they’ll go into August again not quite sure how things will shake out. Ferentz says he does not care if a clear favorite emerges from spring practice. He says he’s not that hung up on it, after not having that situation in past years. He says it’s more important where they’re at in September.
