Former Drake golfer leads tourney

April 3, 2004 By admin

Former Drake University golfer Zach Johnson has the lead halfway through this weekend’s Bell South Classic in Duluth, Georgia. Johnson carded a 6-under-par 66 yesterday to begin Saturday’s action with a two-stroke lead. Johnson says it’s an old golfing cliche, but he’s going to approach the rest of the tournament one hole at a time, one shot at a time. He says recent tournaments have taught him patience. Johnson says the course is awesome, with not too much rough. However, your shots into the green need to be on the mark because of the way the greens are designed. The Cedar Rapids native strung together four birdies in his final six holes Friday.
