William Penn starts strong due to close wins

April 12, 2004 By admin

William Penn baseball coach Mike Laird is happy with the record but not necessarily thrilled with the way the Statesmen are playing right now. Penn is 25-8 overall and 6-2 in the Midwest Classic Conference heading into Tuesday’s doubleheader at Grand View. He says they’ve scrambled and scratched out some wins late in ballgames, but need to improve so they don’t have to do that. Penn had two one run victories over Waldorf this past weekend.Laird says the Statesmen pitching staff will be tested by a powerful Grand View line-up. He says Grandview is a great hitting club that concerns him.
