Iowa soldier laid to rest

April 15, 2004 By admin

A funeral was held today for an Iowa Marine killed in combat near Ramadi in Iraq a week and a half ago at the First Assembly of God Church in Jefferson. Friends eulogized Corporal Ben Carman, and throughout his funeral pictures were projected onto a screen, pictures of a smiling Carman hunting and fishing, playing football, and in training as a Marine. More than two dozen current and former Marines were among those in attendance.  Near the end of the service, two Marines presented Carman’s parents with the Purple Heart.  Mourners then made their way through to town to lay Carman to rest in the Jefferson cemetery. They’ll hold one more remembrance tonight, a candlelight vigil at the Greene County Courthouse.  OutCopy: Deployed to the Middle East in February, Carman was the eleventh Iowa soldier killed in Iraq.
