Being rated as the top player at your position usually means a first round selection in the NFL draft and a big contract to go with it, unless you are a kicker. That’s the scenario facing former Lou Groza award winner and Iowa standout Nate Kaeding. He is hoping to be taken in next week’s draft but realizes kickers are not a hot commodity. He says his big thing it to get with a team and get a chance to play. He says getting drafted is more of an “ego thing.”Kaeding has met with several of the teams and says it is more likely he will be taken in the later rounds. He says he’s had six special teams coaches work him out, all the way from New York to Sand Diego, but he has not idea which team might take him. Kaeding says the important thing is that he will get a chance to make an NFL roster. He says as a kicker he’s not going to get a multi-million dollar signing bonus, he just wants to make a team. The draft is April 24th.
