Students at the East Union Schools at Afton were sent home early today for what was first called an electrical problem. Superintendent Steve Clark later explained that school administrators learned some students had received e-mail threats. Clark says the e-mail’s threatened to take action at the school, so they called the sheriff. He says the students were sent home as a precaution. He says the author of the e-mail was identified and appropriate action was taken by the school and the Union County Sheriff’s Department. He says he can’t identify the person who sent the e-mails. He says the schools have to honor confidentiality rules and can’t release the person’s name, but he says it will come out when charges are filed by the county attorney. Clark says the sheriff’s office did a good job in taking quick action.He says they feel it was resolved, and resolved appropriately.Clark says classes will be held as scheduled Tuesday.
