The man who outdistanced the other democrats in the presidential race is due to return to Iowa this weekend. At this point in 2003, Massachusetts Senator John Kerry was competing against Howard Dean, Dick Gephardt and John Edwards for the votes of Iowa Democrats. Now, Kerry has locked up the Democratic party’s presidential nomination. Sunday’s rally in Des Moines marks the first time Kerry has returned to the state since the January 19th Iowa Caucuses, which helped launch Kerry’s candidacy. Kerry campaign officials say he’ll talk about jobs and homeland security, but abortion rights will also be a focus of the day since there’s a big pro-abortion rally Sunday in Washington, D.C. Last fall, Kerry told an Iowa audience that if elected President, he would ask nominees to the Supreme Court if they’d uphold the Roe versus Wade decision that legalized abortion. The Kerry rally Sunday at Vets Auditorium is free and open to the public, but you have to get a ticket from the Iowa Democratic Party to enter.
