Wells Dairy of Le Mars will announce the location the company’s chosen for its new corporate headquarters today — ending a heated contest to lure the cool treat maker. Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack is scheduled to be in Le Mars today at two p.m. for the announcement. The family owned dairy has said it wants one site to bring together its corporate offices, research, development and information services. It was not a given that the new headquarters would be built in Le Mars. Wells C-E-O Gary Wells said, while Le Mars is a great community, the company had to look at what’s in the best interest of the corporation. With hundreds of jobs and a multi-million dollar facility at state, governors from three states visited Le Mars in December. Iowa’s governor pitched a package that was not tied to a specific location. to compete with Nebraska, Iowa lawmakers fast-tracked a bill in March the would give companies a tax break that lease rather than own offices. The location announcement comes five days after the official search was made public. Vilsack says it appears Wells will announce they’re staying in Le Mars, since they invited him to the announcement.
