D.N.R. sets up gas-saving website

April 29, 2004 By admin

State officials have posted some gas-saving tips on the Internet and plan to make the latest pump price information more readily accessible on-line. Jennifer Moehlmann of the Iowa Department of Natural Resources says consumers have become increasingly worried about the high prices of gasoline. She says there are some steps Iowans can take to help reduce the pocketbook hit of gas prices. Some of the suggestions on the state website include making sure your vehicle’s tuned-up and the tires are properly inflated. Moehlmann says fuel efficiency can be reduced by as much as 10 percent if tires aren’t pumped up enough and the engine’s not firing at full steam. In addition, Moehlmann says driving the speed limit can save you big bucks as fuel efficiency declines for every mile per hour above 55. The state will update its own fuel price survey by the 20th of every month, but Moehlmann says the Iowa D-N-R’s website will list links that’ll take you to sites that track pump prices daily. There’ll be links to the Triple-A website as well as a couple of other sites which offer daily analysis of gasoline prices nationwide. The state’s new “gas price watch” website can be found at www.state.ia.us/dnr/energy/.
