Darke softball still in MVC title hunt

April 29, 2004 By admin

The Drake softball team closes out the home season this weekend against Wichita State and could take a big step toward the Missouri Valley Conference tournament. A victory at Creighton on Tuesday boosted Drake’s record to 10-9 on the season, good for sixth place in the Valley standings. The Bulldogs have won eight of their last ten in conference play.Drake coach Rich Calvert says they made a few defensive changes and that seems to have solidified the defense. The top six teams will play in the conference tournament and the Bulldogs have not qualified since 1998. He says they’re only three games out of first place, and need some help along with winning all the rest of their games to have a chance. Drake is 26-21 overall.
