Two Iowa schools will compete in the NCAA division three softball regionals later this week. Central is the defending national champion and will host a regional in Pella. The Dutch swept ninth ranked Simpson on Saturday to win the Iowa Conference title. Central coach George Wares says he thought Simpson also deserved to advance but some upsets in conference tournaments took away the at-large spots.Clarke College will play in the same regional. The Crusaders advanced after coming out of the loser’s bracket to win the Northern Illinois-Iowa Conference Tournament. Clarke beat Aurora twice to win it after losing the first matchup earlier in the tournament.Crusader coach Cara Clark’s team is making its second straight appearance in the regionals. She says they’ve overcome their share of adversity and obstacles with several key injuries. But, she says they have a deep roster with several key kids.Clark says the team’s ability to handle adversity showed in the conference tournament.Clarke and Central will play in Friday’s first round. The other teams in the regional are Wisconsin-Superior, Maryville of Missouri, St. Thomas of Minnesota and Washington of Missouri.
