The Waterloo Black Hawks captured their first ever USHL title Tuesday night as they defeated Tri-City 2-1 at Young Arena. The Hawks defeated the Storm three games to one to win the Clark Cup Championship. It was the first junior hockey championship in the team’s 25-year history. Joel Hanson broke a 1-1 tie with a goal midway through the final period. He says the town deserved it, the team deserved it, and they’re just so happy it’s unbelievable. Hanson has experienced both ends of the spectrum during his three years on the team from the worst to the best.Goalie Kevin Regan capped off a spectacular run through the playoffs by stopping 35 of 36 shots. Regan was happy to win the Clark Cup in front of the supportive Waterloo fans. He says they’re the best fans in the league and deserve it after waiting for 25 years. Waterloo Coach P.K. O’Handley felt it was appropriate that Hanson scored the game winning goal.
