The Cedar Falls City Council will consider a proposal tonight to make it illegal to talk on a cell phone while driving — making it the first city in Iowa to do so. Elwin Huffman reports. The idea surface two months ago when a councilman noticed the high number of accidents linked to cell phones use. Police chief Rick Ahlstrom is against the move because it would only include Cedar Falls. He says he’d like to see a county-wide or state-wide ban to make it more uniform. A measure to ban the use of cell phones while driving was introduced in the legislature, but never made it out of committee.
