Drake softball player wins conference honor

May 11, 2004 By admin

Drake senior Katie Shimon has been named the Missouri Valley Conference softball player of the week for her efforts on the mound and at the plate. The Perry native was eight of ten at the plate in last weekends series at UNI, including three home runs. She also tossed a three hitter in the opening game of the series as the Bulldogs won two of three games to clinch a spot in the Valley post-season tournament. Drake coach Rich Calvert says Shimon has been a big part of the turnaround of the program as a constant presence the team can always depend on.Shimon set a Drake single season record for home runs with ten and also raised her batting average 20-points to four-oh-three.
