Simpson baseball team heads to Illinois for NCAA’s

May 17, 2004 By admin

The Simpson College baseball team will be the third seed in an NCAA division three regional hosted by Illinois Wesleyan and the Storm open against McMurry of Texas on Thursday afternoon. Simpson clinched its first NCAA trip since 1999 with a 10-7 victory over Wartburg in the title game of the Iowa Conference Tournament on Sunday. The Knights had won the regular season race for their eighth straight Iowa Conference title. Simpson coach John Sirianni says Wartburg has an excellent program and they had to go through them to get to the title, and fortunately they were able to come out on top. The Storm entered the season with post-season aspirations. He says they set their goals high and had to regroup after losing two to Wartburg in the middle of the season, and now they can achieve their goal.Host Illinois Wesleyan is the top seed in a regional which includes Aurora of Illinois, Carthage College and Blackburn.
