Iowa softball team ready to pick up bats again

May 18, 2004 By admin

Iowa softball coach Gayle Blevins says she is not concerned about a layoff heading into Thursday’s start of an NCAA regional in Lincoln, Nebraska. The Hawkeyes have played just once since May ninth and that was a first round loss in the Big Ten Tournament last Friday. She says a number of conferences take the week off before the tournament, but her team is practicing.Iowa is the fifth seed and will play Mississippi State in the opening round. This is the Hawks’ fifth straight trip to the NCAA Tournament and Blevins says a tough nonconference schedule is a benefit this time of year. Iowa got to the championship round of a regional in Lincoln last year before falling to Washington.
