If your home is among the hundreds statewide hit by flood waters, there are a few places to turn for different forms of help. The American Red Cross has clean-up kits available. North Central Iowa Chapter emergency services director Brent Grabinski says you can stop by and pick one up for free. The clean-up kit contains a bucket, brush, disinfectant, a mop, and a broom. Grabinski says one of the most important parts of that clean-up kit is the disinfectant, as the water may be mixed with sewage or animal waste.Another source of information is the Iowa State Extension office. Cerro Gordo County Extension Education Director Tim Rollins says they have several pieces of information to give you.He says they’re a resource for farmers and city folks who need to know about everything from sump pumps to clogged gutters. Rollins says I-S-U Extension specialists have put together helpful information to guide you through the clean-up process. You can also find flood clean-up information at “www.extension.iastate.edu” and then clicking on “disaster recovery”.
