Iowan looks to qualify for U-S Open golf tourney

Corallville’s Sean McCarty is in Columbus, Ohio trying to earn a spot in the U.S. Open. McCarty will play two courses for a total of 36 holes today at the sectional qualifying. He says last year it took six under par to come out and he says he doesn’t think that’ll be that hard.McCarty is the pro at the Brown Deer Course in Corallville and has tried to sharpen his game at the same time the course is expanding and building a new clubhouse. He says that’s kept him busy, but he’s been shooting very well and feeling well.McCarty played in the U.S. Open last year after qualifying in Columbus. He says last year there were 20 spots out of 150 guys, mostly tour players.
