Comets get off to great start in baseball

June 8, 2004 By admin

The Charles City baseball team has had an outstanding start to the season but coach Rick Gabel and the Comets are hoping for a better finish this summer. Charles City is 12-0 and the new top ranked team in 3A in the latest Radio Iowa/Baseball Coaches Association poll. He says it’s been a complete group effort and he’s proud of what they’ve accomplished. Charles City lost to Decorah in a sub-state final last season. Gabel says to this point the key to their success has been simple, good pitching and a defense that has come around. Gabel says plenty of experience returned from last year’s team that finished 24-10, with five seniors who have set the tone.Charles City plays Waverly-Shell Rock tonight.
