Candidate says it’ll take lots of money to win Congressional seat

First district congressional candidate Bill Gluba says he’s spending a lot of time fundraising. The former state lawmaker and Scott county supervisor says it’ll take hundreds of thousands of dollars to compete against republican incumbent Jim Nussle.He says an incumbent congressman has a built-in advantage of a million and-a-half dollars counting the staff and mailing privileges already at his disposal and access to the media, and Gluba says his opponent Nussle “fully utilizes” all those advantages. Gluba says he’ll need at least 800-thousand dollars to get his message out and fend off ads on behalf of his republican opponent. He says that’s a lot more money than he’s raised before. He says he has a little over 200-thousand and that’s far above any other democratic challenger in the state. Gluba won more than 60-percent of the votes cast in yesterday’s primary. He works as a real estate agent in Davenport. He says he’s gotten checks from all over the state and around the country, and says people want Nussle replaced, calling him a “Tom DeLay, Newt Gingrich-type republican” and he welcomes donations to help him win the election. Gluba defeated democrat Denny Heath in yesterday’s primary.
