Pleasant Valley has been a part of all but one of the girls state soccer tournaments that began in 1998 but the Spartans will try to win their first state championship this week. Ranked second in class 2A, Pleasant Valley plays Iowa City West in tonights opening round in Muscatine.Coach Cathy Allbaugh says she is taking each game as it comes and hopes the girls can achieve what they have wanted the past few years- after winning their conference to keep winning more.The Spartans finished third in the first tournament but lost first round matchups in their last four trips.Allbaugh says while some familiar names are in the field each year more programs become competitive.The tournament begins this morning with opening round matches in class 1A.
